A Few of Our Favourite Things
Marathon Knitter
Susie Hewer will be 50 years old next year and to mark the event she has decided to run a marathon. More accurately, she will be running 6 long distance events (one for each decade), 4 of which are 26.2 miles, the others are 35 and 52.4 miles respectively.
Susie has been knitting ever since she can remember but only took up running 5 years ago. She enjoyed it so much she just carried on and has since run 4 marathons, with many more to come.
In 2007, she will be raising money for the Alzheimer's Research Trust in memory of her mum, who suffered from vascular dementia.
One of the marathons Susie will be running is the London Marathon in April 2007. As she has already run it twice she was trying to think of how to make it a bit more of a challenge. A friend told her she was mad and why didn't she just stay at home and knit. That was when Susie came up with the idea of "extreme knitting" her way around. A great way of combining two of her favourite pastimes!
Susie will be keeping us regularly informed of her training progress in her

Knitting a Scarf for a Trafalgar Square Lion
By Lauren O'Farrell
published 2nd December, 2006
Stitch and Bitch London - London's most ultra-friendly knitting group (despite the name), are attempting to knit a gigantic scarf (or scarves if we get enough) for one (or all) of the rather chilly-looking Trafalgar Square lions. The scarf will be raffled off for Cancer Research after being presented to the Lion, and one lucky winner (or winners) will get a fantastically huge and fabulous 43.5 foot scarf to wrap around their armchair/tree/house/partner.
The scarf will be presented to the lion in late February (no set date yet) so you have plenty of time to knit your bit. We would like as many people as possible from all around the world to knit a piece. You can knit the smallest, teeny tiny part or a huge chunk, in whichever yarn you fancy using. The only requirement is that it is 10 inches wide - there are no other limits so go wild!
