Materials

Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino Yarn (4 ply yarn 50g / 125m)
55% Merino Wool / 33% Microfibre / 12% Cashmere

3 x 50gm balls

Tension

25 sts and 34 rows to 10cm/4 inches using 3.25mm needles over stocking stitch.

Needles

1 pair 3.25mm (US #4) needles
1 3.25mm (US #4) circular needle
1 pair 2.75mm (US #3) needles
Ribbon

Finished Dimensions

To fit ages: 3-6mths 6-12mths
To fit chest size 17inch (43cm) 18inch (46cm)

Abbreviations

sl1 - slip the next stitch on left hand needle purlwise to right hand needle without knitting the stitch.
psso - pass the slipped stitch over the next stitch.
k2tog - knit two stitches together, as though knitting one stitch but work with two.
p2tog - purl two stitches together, as though purling with one stitch but work with two.

Pattern Notes

The little angel top is knitted in 4 separate pieces to the armhole and then placed on a circular needle and a yoke is knitted in one piece upwards to neckline. The yoke is not knitted in the round as there is a back opening so the yoke is still knitted in rows.

Front

Using 2.75mm needles, cast on 69 (77) sts. Knit the next 4 rows.
Change to 3.25mm needles and commencing with a knit row, work in stocking stitch until work measures 16 (18)cm ending with a WS row.

Shape armhole

Cast off 2 (4) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Next row: k1, sl1, k1, psso, k to last 3sts, k2tog, k1.
Next row: Purl
Rep last 2 rows 1 (3) times more. 61sts.
Break off yarn and place sts on holder.

Back

Using 2.75mm needles cast on 70 (78) sts. Knit the next 4 rows.
Change to 3.25mm needles and commencing with a knit row, work in stocking stitch until back is 2 rows shorter than front to beg of armhole shaping. (End with a WS row).

Divide for back opening

Next row: K 35sts., turn, and work on these sts only.
Next row: K2, purl to end.

Shape armhole

Cast off 2 (4) sts at beg of next row.
Next row: K2, purl to end.
Next row: k1, sl1, k1, psso, k to end.
Rep last 2 rows 1 (3) times more, then first of them again. 31sts.
Break off yarn and leave sts on holder.
Rejoin yarn to rem sts and work as for right side reversing all shapings.

Sleeves (Make two)

Using 2.75mm needles cast on 41 (45) sts. Knit the next 4 rows.
Change to 3.25mm needles and commencing with a knit row, work in stocking stitch, AT SAME TIME, increasing 1 st at each end of next and every foll 5th row until 53 (57) sts. Continue without shaping until sleeve measures 16 (18) cm, ending with a WS row.
Work a further 4 (6) rows without shaping.

Shape Sleevehead

Next row: k1,sl1,k1,psso, k to last 3sts, k2tog, k1.
Next row: Purl.
Rep these 2 rows 1 (3) times more. 49sts.
Break off yarn and leave on holder.

Yoke

Using 3.25mm circular needle and with RS of work facing, k across sts of left back, left sleeve, front, right sleeve and then right back. (221sts).
Working in rows, k the next 4 rows.
Next row: k2, p to last 2sts, dec 1 st at centre, k2 (220sts).
Next row: k3, *p4, k1, rep from * to last 2sts, k2.
Next row: k2, p1, *k4,p1, rep from * to last 2sts, k2
Rep last 2 rows 4 times more.
Next row: k3, *p1, p2tog,p1,k1, rep from * to last 2sts, k2 (177sts).
Work 7 rows in rib as now set.
Next row: k3, *p1,p2tog, k1, rep from * to last 2sts, k2 (134sts).
Work 7 rows in rib.

Change to 2.75mm needles.
Next row: k3, *p2tog, k1, rep from * to last 2sts, k2 (91sts).
Work 7 rows rib. Cast off in rib.

Making Up

Darn in all ends. Block pieces.
Join side and sleeve seams, matching last 4 (6) rows of sleeve seam to cast off sts at underarm.
Cut 4 equal pieces of ribbon, and sew two pieces to each side of back opening as shown.
