Materials

Wendy Fusion - Shade 160 (tumeric) 4 x 50gm balls (50gm/88metres approx)

(50% wool/50% acrylic - machine washable) - Main yarn (M)

Sirdar Supersoft Aran - Shade 873 (mahogany) 1 x 100gm ball

(100gm/256metres approx, 100% acrylic - machine washable) - Contrast yarn (C)

5 buttons
1 pair 5mm (US #8) needles

Tension

22sts x 20 rows over 5mm (US #8) needles over ripple pattern.

Pattern notes

Ripple Pattern

Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2: K1, P to last st., K1
Row 3: (P2tog) twice, *(inc 1, k1) 3 times, inc 1, (P2tog) 4 times, rep from * to last 4sts, P2tog twice.
Row 4: K1, P to last st, K1

Moss stitch

Row 1: *K1, P1, rep from * to last st, K1. Row 2: * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, P1.

Pattern

Before knitting, separate yarn C into two balls.

Using 5mm (US #8) needles and yarn C, cast on 77 sts.
Commencing with Row 1 of pattern, work 12 rows in moss stitch.

Place ripple pattern as follows:

Photo2 Row 1: Moss st for 11sts using C, join in yarn M, work row 1 of ripple pattern for 55sts, join in second ball of C and patt 11sts in moss st.

Continue as set in row 1, repeating 4 rows of ripple pattern until work measures 39 inches (99cm) from cast on, ending with row 2.
Break off yarn M, leaving a length of yarn for darning in later.

Working in yarn C only, moss st across entire row.
Work 3 more rows in moss st.
Make buttonholes
Next row: Continue in moss st and yarn C, work 5 buttonholes evenly across row by casting off 2sts for each buttonhole.
Next row: Work in moss st., cast on 2sts over each 2sts cast off.

Work 6 more rows in moss st. Cast off knitwise.

Making up

Darn in all loose ends. Sew on buttons, Put buttoned up cover around cushion pad and decide where on the front you would like the buttons to sit. Place pins to indicate top and bottom edges. Remove from pad, turn cover inside out. Backstitch seams 2sts in from edges. Darn in any remaining ends. Turn to right side, undo buttons and insert cushion pad.
