Wink Wrap Cardigan

By Just call me Ruby

Design Story

The original inspiration for this design came from the dress the model is wearing in the photographs.

I wanted to design a cardigan that could be worn with such a 'busy' fabric, wouldn't be boring to knit and also would be suitable to be worn with COLLARS.

The yarn has a very soft, slightly felted quality to it and when knitting samples with it I realised I wanted to show this off, so I kept to the very simplest of stitch patterns.

To keep the knitting interesting I decided to use a sideways construction which also enabled me to produce the vertical textural stripes that I wanted. The result is 'Wink' so called after the yarn which is 'Periwinkle blue' just like the flowers on my dress.

Making up

Darn in all ends. Block work. Try garment on wearer and place pin at left side seam where right front edge to sit. Join side and sleeve seams using a back stitch with wrong sides together, so that there is a seam on the outside of the side seams. Sew press studs in place, attaching two buttons over press studs on visible right front. Try garment on wearer again and position inside press studs at right side seam, place pin to mark position and then sew studs in place.
